I love the concept of your website. It is an excellent idea for the chicagoland area. Although I would just like to say if you are going to showcase the fabulous side of dogs you should also expose the negative side of these business as well. I have taken my pup to Tucker Pup’s many of times and disagree with a few things I saw posted in the video. As for the grass being “cool to the touch” i have found that to be NOT TRUE at all! it gets steaming hot in the summer months and without proper drainage it can become a cesspool for germs and illness. I noticed the few times I had taken to my dog to TP’s that it accumulates puddles all over the out door area. I would never take my dog to Tucker Pup’s AGAIN! after a long holiday weekend my dog came home very ill and it was down played by the owner Joel himself.
On a more important note…. First let me state that I love pitt bulls and do believe some of them can make great pets… But, WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD SUGGEST OR EVEN RECOMMEND THAT THEY PUT THESE PITT BULLS NEAR OR AROUND CHILDREN? are you kidding me? high pain tolerance? did she really say that? really 5 years of experience? I would hope after 5 years you would have general dog education and it is obviously laking. And more importantly rescuing dogs and adopting them out to your friends? how is that an organization? and also it struck my curiosity as to why you didn’t have her bring down her own killer pit bulls? I have personally seen one of them attack HER and her friend at a park one day!! Ripping her right open it was horrid and insane!
educate your self on animals, they are a big commitment.

  4. Chad Says:

Hi there, dog lover. First, let me just say thank you for watching the show. I’m glad you support the concept, and hope you’ll come back to watch future episodes. I appreciate ALL feedback because it helps both me and the show get better. I currently have THREE adopted dogs (including Guinness) who are happy and healthy, so I am well aware of the commitment involved in adopting, caring for, and loving a pet.
In response to the Tucker Pup’s segment, I am only reporting on what I can vouch for first hand. During my visits to Tucker Pup’s, I found the facility to be clean and odor free, including the outdoor area. I’ve been around and had to take care of animals most of my life, so I know pretty well how to spot unsatisfactory conditions. I also did some additional research on the K9Grass used in the outdoor area (even though I may appear to know nothing about the products on camera, I try to thoroughly research everything I talk about). I found it to be a very interesting product that was anti-microbial in nature, and has a drainage system underneath which helps promote cleanliness when properly installed. Other locations (such as Paradise 4 Paws) also use this product.
In regards to the pit bulls, we chose Licorice (who has since been adopted) and Pearl because they were quiet, readily adoptable, and very friendly. We couldn’t have all of the pit bulls down there because of the difficulty presented with filming (the same reason we weren’t down in the play area with the daycare dogs). I have friends who have pit bulls, and my experience with them so far is that they are loving, gentle dogs, and I stand by my statement that it is the owners who are the primary cause of dog aggression. I was unaware of any incident involving Cecilia and her dogs, but do know that she takes on some tough cases, and am sure that she would not knowingly adopt out an unstable dog. From what I understand, potential adopters are thoroughly screened and are actively looking for a pit bull. As far as children are concerned, NO dogs, regardless of breed, should ever be left unsupervised with a small child. Pit bulls get a bad rap because of their continued use in dogfighting (which results in aggressive dogs), and poorly educated owners. Only through proper education, a continued law enforcement crackdown on dogfighting, and people who strive to rehabilitate pit bulls (see the Michael Vic pit bull story) can we help to reduce the number of pit bull related attacks.
Once again, I’d just like to say that I am appreciative of your comments, and don’t want to come across any other way. In fact, I would love some suggestions from you about places you’d like me to visit. So, feel free to send me an e-mail, or use the submit form on the home page, and I’ll be sure to visit your recommendations as well.

  5. Joel Spainhour Says:

I am the owner of Tucker Pup’s. In response to “dog lover’s” comments, obviously I am dismayed and want to clarify a few things.

    Taking comments one by one:

    Comment:
“[The grass] gets steaming hot in the summer months and without proper drainage it can become a cesspool for germs and illness. I noticed the few times I had taken to my dog to TP’s that it accumulates puddles all over the out door area.”

    Response:
First, how would a customer know if the grass gets steaming hot unless they’ve been back there? It is very rare that a customer is in our outdoor area, especially during daycare hours. Second, the grass is indeed cool to the touch – if you don’t believe me, come see for yourself. Third, we do have drainage, so no, there is not a cesspool for germs and illness. Fourth, because of the way the grass is installed, there are no puddles. That is one of the key reasons that we purchased the grass.

    Comment:
“WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD SUGGEST OR EVEN RECOMMEND THAT THEY PUT THESE PITT BULLS NEAR OR AROUND CHILDREN? are you kidding me? high pain tolerance? did she really say that? really 5 years of experience? I would hope after 5 years you would have general dog education and it is obviously laking.”

    Response:
This comment displays the lack of education about pit bulls, not Cecilia’s.

    Comment:
“And more importantly rescuing dogs and adopting them out to your friends? how is that an organization?”

    Response:
The Pit Stop Rescue has adopted 50 dogs out to a number of people, the vast majority of whom were not friends with Cecilia beforehand. Not even sure where that comment comes from.

    Comment:
“and also it struck my curiosity as to why you didn’t have her bring down her own killer pit bulls?”

    Response:
The fact that ‘killer’ is used to describe Cecilia’s pit bulls again shows a lack of understanding about the breed and indicates that this is a fake review. None of her dogs have attacked any person or dog. How would a person know the disposition of her dogs to begin with?

    Comment:
“I have personally seen one of them attack HER and her friend at a park one day!! Ripping her right open it was horrid and insane!”

    Response:
This comment solidifies that this is a fake review. Cecilia’s dogs don’t go to the park, and have never injured her or anyone else.

So, these comments are lies and are most likely written by a former employee who has an axe to grind, or possibly a competitor. If you don’t believe me, I personally invite you to our facility to see for yourself.

  6. Nancy Says:

As the other half who started Pit Stop Rescue I’d just like to address some of the statements brought up by “dog lover” regarding our rescue. And I’d also like to say thank you to Chad for his well thought out and informative response above.
We started this rescue 5 years ago because we love bully breeds and found them to be great, loving but misunderstood dogs. Apparently from the statements by “dog lover” we still have a long way to go to educated people. We screen out dogs and applicants very carefully to make sure that they’re a good match. ALL dogs have their quirks. Not all dogs are good with all people, pets, or children. We would never adopt out a “vicious dog” to anybody or adopt a dog that wasn’t good with children to a family that has kids. I have personally never adopted out a dog to a friend of mine, although I now consider all of our new “parents” friends. Even if we did only adopt out to friends, wouldn’t that be ideal? Adopting a dog out to someone you knew really well, trusted and saw often?
Lastly, we always tell our new adopters that we don’t think dog parks are a good place to take our dogs. Why? Because if anything happens, a pit bull will always be blamed-even if it’s not their fault. Why set a dog up for failure? And seeing that I’ve known Cecilia for 7 years I can assure you that she’s never taken her dogs to the park, nor have they even bitten her. ALL of her dogs are sweet lap dogs that just want to lick your face and be near you.
I encourage everyone to educate themselves on bully breeds. There’s a host of great information to be had out there and we have some great links and info on our website.

    Nancy, Pit Stop Rescue

  7. Cecilia Says:

I would like to start off by stating that the individual who wrote this review is a coward and has to anonymously hide behind a computer screen to spread erroneous statements. Obviously they take no regard for the dogs (pit-bulls) that they are ultimately hurting by trying to damage my reputation.

The review written by “dog lover” portrays them to be a customer, which is a lie. A customer would not know the texture of the K9 grass or see any puddles, since a customer is not allowed to enter the outdoor area. This puddles claim is false in itself since our grass area has a proper drainage system.

It pains me to know that a person would try to damage the reputation of a rescuer and of a breed that is already so misunderstood. Why would I ever recommend a pit bull to a family with children? With some research one would find out that the pit-bull was known as the nanny dog because of its innate love and tolerance for children. For example: if a child were to accidentally step on a paw, poke it’s eye or pull their ear, a pit-bull would not react violently as one might think. Pit-bulls have high pain tolerance and are very patient in these types of situations. My dogs and current fosters have been around children numerous times and they have never attacked. Are there exceptions to this? Of course there are as there would be with any breed. This is why we as a responsible rescue screen and test our fosters to know the right home for them.
The link below shows some great examples of pit-bulls and children.
    http://pitbulls.iwarp.com/photo.html

The incident where I am “ripped open” by one of my dogs is completely false. Not only because I do not take my dogs to parks, but because none of my dogs or fosters, even the ones that have been badly abused, have EVER attacked me.

I have been rescuing pit-bulls for the past five years and prior to adoption had no friendship with the adopter except for 2 cases, but since the adoptions we have all proudly become friends. I keep in touch with all of my adopters thru phone, e-mail, pictures, events and also offer free dog sitting for each of my past fosters.

To the so called “dog lover” I would echo the same statement, educate yourself, on a breed that you obviously know nothing about before continuing to spread spurious information about my dogs and pit-bulls. Your screen name or your “love” does not reflect the content that was written in the review, you would not call them a killer dog if you love pit-bulls like you claim. For the rest of the public that has read the bogus review by “dog lover” and may have some questions, I strongly suggest that you contact me. I will gladly put you in touch with people that have happily adopted from my rescue and people that know me in the rescue community.

I have put everything I have into Pit Stop Rescue and the education of a breed that has been victimized for years by bad people and the media. Even though “dog lover” tried to sabotage what I have worked so hard for and love so much the truth always comes out. Pit Stop Rescue and Tucker Pup’s will continue to run successfully, despite people like this.

Thank you very much for your time,
    Cecilia
    Pit Stop Rescue

Congratulations and great stuff! Although I am not a current dog owner, I think that all the information on the episode as well as on this site, is beneficial to all. I have and will continue to pass this on. Keep up the good work. oxoxox

I came here because i was given a flyer about this web site. I think you have a great concept but these people in the above post are very confrontational. seriously.
